WHAT IS BIKE SHARE?

Bike share was designed to allow users to make short trips around town. The sturdy-framed bikes are available at any docking station in the city. The bikes can be taken from any station and returned to any station in the bike share system.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BIKE SHARE AND BIKE RENTAL?

While bike share has similarities to traditional bike rental, bike share is perfect for short trips around town. Traditional bike rental is a better option for trips longer than a couple of hours.

WHAT CAN BIKE SHARE BE USED FOR?

Bike share is perfect for short trips around town. Riders use bike share for commuting to work or leisure—like running errands, going to appointments or meeting up with friends. Bike share can also connect you to public transportation. Others use bike share simply for exercise or exploring the city.

WHAT IF I HAVE MY OWN BIKE?

Bike share is useful even if you have your own bike. Perfect for short, one-way trips, bike share can be used when you don’t have your bike with you. Worried about finding bike parking or your bike being stolen? Bike share helps get you where you need to go without being concerned about the security of your personal bike. There’s no need to carry your bike lock with you, and bike share spares your bike from wear and tear.

How It Works

HOW DOES ARBORBIKE WORK?

ArborBike is a fun, flexible and convenient way to get around Ann Arbor. Buy one of our Passes to gain access to 130 bikes throughout the city. Check out a bike from any one of the 14 stations, ride it, and return the bike to any other station in the system. You can take as many free 30-minute trips as you want while your Pass is active. HOW DO I TAKE OUT A BIKE?

To use ArborBike you must purchase a Pass, either at a kiosk or on your smartphone.

HOW LONG CAN I KEEP A BIKE OUT?

The first 30 minutes of each ride is included in the base price of the pass or with your membership. Extra usage fees apply after 30 minutes. See Annual Membership and Day Passes for more information on pricing.

WHAT ARE THE FEES IF YOU KEEP A BIKE OUT LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES?

For Daily Pass holder, it costs $4 per additional half hour for rides longer than 30 minutes. For Monthly, Annual and Access Pass holders, it costs $2 per additional half hour for rides longer than 30 minutes. See Pricing for more information.

HOW DO I RETURN A BIKE?

Return the bike to any of the 14 stations with an open dock. You can locate an available dock on the Station Map or the ArborBike  mobile app. Once you’re at the dock insert the bike. A beep will sound on the dock indicating that the bike has been locked in the dock.

CAN I RIDE A BIKE OUTSIDE OF THE SERVICE AREA?

Yes, but you still have to return the bike to one of our 14 stations after your ride. Remember, extra usage fees apply after 30 minutes. See Pricing for more information on pricing and usage fees.

DO THE BIKES FIT EVERYONE?

ArborBike bicycles were designed to fit riders of a variety of heights and sizes. Each bike seat can be adjusted for height using the lever below the seat.

WHY ARE FREE RIDES ONLY 30 MINUTES?

Bike share was created for quick trips and getting from point A to point B. Free rides are limited to 30 minutes to ensure that bikes are returned and bike available for other riders.

HOW DO I PURCHASE A PASS?

You can purchase a Pass in one of two ways:

Buy a Pass at any station by follow the step-by-step instructions on the touchscreen.

Use the ArborBike App to buy Passes and unlock bikes right from your phone. See Get the Apps for more information.

WHY WAS MY PURCHASE REJECTED?

Your bank rejected the transaction. You are trying to use a prepaid card.

WHICH PAYMENT METHODS ARE ACCEPTED TO PURCHASE A PASS?

Purchase a Pass with a VISA, MasterCard, or debit card at any station or through the ArborBike App. Prepaid cards are not accepted.

CAN I PURCHASE A NEW PASS WITH THE SAME CREDIT CARD BEFORE MY CURRENT PASS EXPIRES?

No. If you would like to purchase a second Daily Pass before the first Daily Pass expires, you must use a different credit or debit card.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I RIDE WITH MY PASS?

As many times as you want while your Pass is active! The first 30 minutes of each ride is included in the price of the pass. Extra usage fees apply for rides that exceed 30 minutes.

Safety

IS ARBORBIKE SAFE?

While no form of transportation is risk-free, bike share has been designed with safety in mind. Our upright, cruiser-style bikes are built to be both durable and comfortable. Each bike has a bell, self-powered LED lights on the front basket and in the rear of the bike, and several reflectors to make sure it is easily seen by other people driving, walking or riding. When riding MoGo, riders should stay alert to your surroundings - don’t ride with headphones. We strongly encourage all riders to wear a helmet to reduce the risk of head injury in the event of an crash. share was designed to allow users to make short trips around town. DO I HAVE TO WEAR A HELMET?

Cyclists under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while riding. Although adults 18 years and older are not required by law to wear a helmet, all riders should wear a helmet to reduce the risk of head injury in case of an accident. bike share has similarities to traditional bike rental, bike share is perfect for short trips around town. HOW DO I RIDE SAFELY IN THE CITY?

WHERE CAN I RIDE ARBORBIKE?

ArborBike riders may ride on streets, in bike lanes, and on greenways throughout Ann Arbor. We discourage riders from using ArborBike on sidewalks, as this increases the risk of crashes at intersections and can pose safety issues for pedestrians.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DO BEFORE STARTING A RIDE?

Adjust the seat for your height, press the brakes to gauge resistance, and check that the tires are inflated. Do not try to ride a ArborBike bike that appears appears damaged or out of order.

Troubleshooting

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I NEED TO RETURN MY BIKE AND THE STATION IS FULL?

Find another station on the ArborBike app or any station map.  The sturdy-framed bikes are available at any docking station in the city. The bikes can be taken from any station and returned to any station in the bike share system.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I CRASH MY BIKE?

Call 911 immediately if you are injured. Call the police precinct where the crash occurred, and file a report with a police officer to document all important information.

Riders must also contact ArborBike within 24 hours by contacting Customer Service. Tell the representative all of the facts of the crash.

Please note that the bike is still your responsibility until it locked at a dock. If you are unable to dock your bike, contact Customer Service and a ArborBike team member will come and help you.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY BIKE IS LOST OR STOLEN?

Riders are responsible for their bikes from the time they unlock them from a dock until they lock them in a dock after a ride. If your bicycle is stolen while it is checked out, file a police report by calling the Ann Arbor police department. Call ArborBike’s Customer Service. Riders may be responsible for the fee of recovery or replace of the bike, which is $1200.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I CAN’T DOCK MY BIKE?

Make sure you have inserted the bike all the way into the dock. Try pushing the bike in by the seat while holding one handlebar.
Try a different dock.
Call Customer Service at if you need help. Do not leave your bike unlocked if you can’t dock it. Extra usage fees apply after 30 minutes and a lost bike fee of $1200 is charged if you do not dock your bike within 24 hours.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THERE’S A PROBLEM WITH MY BIKE?

Return the bike to the closest dock. Riders often turn the seat backwards, so other riders can see that the bike is broken and not available for use.
